So, you’re looking for Theological German?
Perhaps because you’re an aspiring Ph.D. student or otherwise scholar? I’m the guy behind www.theologicalgerman.com — Hermeneutics and biblical studies scholar, native German speaker and language professor. I’m also the founder of Warehouse Theology.
“People who need to read theological texts in German face two major, but distinct problems: First, traditional language learning is super inefficient in getting you to a point of proficiency. A much more cost-effective hands-on approach is needed whereby you get into actual translation of theological texts very quickly. Secondly, what you often need above all else is a tunnel-type approach, wide at the top, narrow at the bottom. Meaning: When you are trying to ascertain whether a German book or article or paragraph is worth spending many hours on, what you really need is this: Step 1: A “flyover”, where a native speaking professional theologian/scholar makes a brief audio file for you, telling you what the content/arguments/flow of the piece are. (2) If still relevant (given step 1), you can ask that pro to dig deeper and focus on sections that sound most pertinent for you - also by audio. (3) Again optionally, you ask for an actual audio translation of selected (by you!) sections or paragraphs. (4) That pro is available to answer specific questions about problematic (to you) sentences or arguments and will check your use of the latter in your own written piece. — It is crucial that you work with someone who customizes their approach to you and your specific needs. That will vary from project to project - and your pro has to be able to flex with that. Also, it has to be cost-efficient AND save you a TON OF TIME. No app will even get close to doing anything like that for you. Traditional translation services will also fall far short and cost you an arm and a leg. You’ll do that only once - and regret it! Bottom line: If this paragraph describes your dilemma and need well, get in touch. Because it also describes what we can do for you! ”
As part of the launch of Warehouse Theology, we are currently offering the following: Get a lifetime Warehouse Theology subscription/membership (one time payment of $950 - available via CHECKOUT tab), and we throw in the entire line-up of live, face-to-face online classes (ZOOM) in Theological German for free. That’s actually $150 cheaper than the equivalent 44 hours of live Theological German classes by themselves. For what it’s worth: A number of UK universities have accepted our academic references on behalf of our Theological German students for enrollment into their Ph.D. programs. I hope you find this motivating - it beats taking German exams any day :-)
“Not sure how long we keep this launch offer in place, but once you purchase it, you’re set (lifetime). So what is included (in addition to Theological German)? You get the actual, weekly, professional (philosophical-hermeneutical and interdisciplinary) content that comes with the Warehouse Theology membership, specifically the three weekly videos on hermeneutics, interpretation and their impact on theology. Plus a weekly live session that I host to discuss each week’s video content.”
